Bezalel Smotrich

Religious Zionist Party (RZP)
Party Leader (Religious Zionism) · Nationwide, Israel · 2026
PurposeSmotrich is running to lead the Religious Zionist Party list into the October 27, 2026 Knesset election on a platform of applying Israeli sovereignty over most of the West Bank, restructuring the judiciary, and consolidating the religious-nationalist right within a Netanyahu-led coalition.

Immigration
The party's central platform commitment is applying Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank, built on Smotrich's own plan to annex roughly 82% of the territory while carving out Ramallah, Nablus, Jenin, Tulkarem, Jericho and Hebron as separate Palestinian population enclaves surrounded by Israeli-controlled land. The stated goal, in the plan's own framing, is "maximum territory and minimum Arab population," explicitly intended to foreclose any future Palestinian state. Smotrich has said the time has come to apply Israeli sovereignty over Judea and Samaria and end discussion of dividing the land. The platform continues the settlement expansion carried out under his tenure overseeing the Settlements Administration, including dozens of new settlement approvals.

Security
On Gaza, the party's platform calls for renewed Israeli military and civilian presence in the territory, abolishing the Oslo Accords framework, and dismantling the Palestinian Authority in favor of direct Israeli military governance as a step toward eventual sovereignty. Smotrich has framed the approach as treating the West Bank the way Israel "did in Gaza," and has also called for annexing captured Gaza territory and a security buffer in southern Lebanon.

Security
On military conscription, the party's platform conditions any haredi (ultra-Orthodox) draft law on a clear commitment that men not enrolled in full-time Torah study must enlist, which Smotrich has called "the minimum required" to move forward. The party has pushed this position even where it has strained relations with haredi coalition partners.

Governance
The platform includes a judicial-reform agenda to limit the Supreme Court's ability to strike down government decisions, shift responsibility for judicial appointments toward the Knesset (including via an override clause), and split the attorney-general's role from the state prosecutor while ending the binding legal force of attorney-general opinions. On coalition strategy, Smotrich has ruled out any government reliant on Arab parties and has joined forces with Moshe Feiglin's list ahead of the election to consolidate right-wing votes behind a Netanyahu-led government, saying the alliance is meant to ensure "no right wing vote is lost."

Economy
The party's economic platform calls for liberalizing the economy and encouraging private enterprise, including measures to increase market competition in the dairy sector to bring down milk and cheese prices as part of a broader cost-of-living agenda.

Immigration
The platform also calls for increasing aliyah (Jewish immigration to Israel) and expanding benefits and incentives for Diaspora Jews to move to Israel.
